I have become convinced that the enemy of our souls actually has very little power. All he can do is tell us lies. We are the ones that take his words and put action behind them.
Satan can’t help but lie
That’s what he does. In fact, the book of John says “there is NO truth in him.” Unfortunately, we often listen, unaware that our life-damaging and condemning thoughts have such an insidious source.
His words seem so subtle, so familiar. They seem to make sense. But that’s only because they are artfully crafted falsehoods by someone who has been lying since soon after the heavens and the earth were created.
With that much practice, no wonder his lies are so convincing!
He whispers things about us
Satan tells us we’re not good enough. He tells us God is fed up with us. He tells us what other people are surely thinking about us. And every one of them is WRONG!
But, in spite of what he tries to tell us:
- We are NOT bad people, flawed people, uniquely sinful or unsalvageable.
- God is NOT ashamed of us, angry at us, disgusted by us, or ignoring us.
- Most people aren’t thinking any of the things that Satan credits them with. In fact, it is much more likely that they are worrying (or listening to the enemy’s lies) about what we think of THEM.
Satan even lies about God’s Word
The Bible is full of passages about God’s promises and his love for us . . . but the enemy even manages to distort those. Satan tells us that those words are for other people, not people like us. He tells us that, at best, we are tolerated by God and His family. But it’s all lies!
We can know the truth
Today, just for a few moments, bind the enemy by the power of Jesus’ blood and quiet your mind and soul. Ask God to fill your thoughts with the REAL truth about how HE sees you.
You might be surprised!
“…He (the devil) was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies” — John 8: 44b (NIV)
